đŹ Face palm
(Friday, February 7th). Today's power moves: share your life's "I peed my pants in public" moments, do what you say you're going to do and write down the moments when you're proud of yourself.
Too long, didnât read
Share your lifeâs embarrassing âI peed my pants in publicâ moments.
Why? Life is too short to think youâre alone in living a wonderfully awkward, crazy life. Life is too short to think you need to be ashamed of things youâve done, havenât done or did poorly. Life is too short to think you need people in your life who donât support you through any and all moments.
- Case (still listening to this 4 minute music x meditation I created. I <3 it!)
Do you do that thing you do?
Real talk: do you do what you say youâre gonna do?
Itâs a great thing to know what you want in life.
âI want to be confident! I want to be passionate. I want to be successful. I want to find someone special who understands me and me them. I want to be a great friend, a kind human and an all around enthusiastic person.â
You might even write those goals down or visualize them, BUT then when it comes down to it⊠you donât do the thing.
You donât practice!
But facts are facts and hereâs one Iâve learned: everything in life comes down to practice.
Every single thing - whether itâs a goal to be a great podcaster or soccer player or itâs simply to be more outgoing or confident⊠itâs all about practice!
Say you want to be more confident in yourselfâŠ
Do you raise your hand and ask a question? Do you volunteer to present something? Do you do that cold call? Do you ask that person out?
You need to DO THAT THING YOU DO!
Youâve done the thing for 100 hours? Do it for 200!
Youâve pushed yourself to uncomfortable 5 times? Do it 10!
Practice, practice, practice and Iâm confident that thing you want to accomplish, that person you want to become or that feeling you want to experience⊠you'll do it.
I released an episode on this idea this morning. I talk about my siiiick cargo shorts and the things I do and donât do. Give it a listen :)
A simple thing to doâŠ
I love this idea.
Whenever you are happy or proud of yourself⊠write it down on your phone.
A lot of the time those type of memories pass in one ear and out the other. Poof! Gone!
Be proud of yourself in moments where it happens but write it down so you can prolong that feeling in the form of a memory you can look back on when you need it.
Another great idea is⊠the next time youâre in a great mood, create a playlist that mirrors that. Add your favorite happy, upbeat, energetic songs that capture how youâre feeling.
Then when youâre feeling the opposite, listen to that playlist and let it put you in a better place.
These types of habits and practices are the engine behind âthinking positive.â To make this even better, as you build the habit of doing this, youâll find yourself doing more things to make yourself proud.
Todayâs soul food.
Well that was awkwardâŠ
Here are some life moments worth sharing:
graduation (congratulations!)
an engagement (yay!)
buying a house (show it off!)
a promotion at work (you earned it!)
Those are life moments we have very little hesitation towards sharing. We have no shame or guilt⊠just an enthusiasm that other people will appreciate them for what they are - a nice reflection of your growth.
Those are great moments to share, so share them! Shout them from a mountain and be proud!
BUT I also think we also need to have a willingness to share the not-so-glamorous moments in our life.
We need to be willing to share our lifeâs embarrassing moments.
Iâve heard this referred to as a willingness to share your lifeâs âI peed my pants in publicâ moments.
We all have those awkward, embarrassing, failure moments that we hide away and cringe when we think about them.
That time you literally peed your pants in 3rd grade (just call me Miles Davis)
That time you completely flopped in that interview (why do I want this position? uhhhh.. uhhhhâŠ)
That time you wore two different shoes to work (it was dark this morning, ok?!)
That time you were so flustered you forgot your name (who me?! my name? uhhhâŠ)
I think we need to share those awkward moments.
Why? Opening up and sharing them does two incredible things.
When youâre willing to share your lifeâs âI peed my pants in publicâ moments youâre willing to be vulnerable and not perfect anymore. That might seem like a seemingly small thing and not too different from cliche âbe your best selfâ advice, BUT this really is huge.
When youâre willing to talk about those moments and share them with friends or colleagues or even strangers, you drop your guard and when you do that, you quickly realize that you are not alone.
Everyone has embarrassing face-palm moments. EVERYONE!
When you share those moments willingly - as a funny thing to reflect on and poke fun at or as part of a deep soul to soul conversation - you quickly come to realize that youâre not weird or falling behind like you once thought. Everyone has fallen flat. Everyone has flopped. Everyone has terribly embarrassing stories. Everyone has insecurities.
A willingness to share those embarrassing moments makes you realize thisâŠ
BUT WAIT THEREâS MORE!
When you share those moments you also quickly learn who are your people and who are not.
People who scoff, ridicule, guilt or shame you for sharing your embarrassing moments? They are not your people.
People who laugh with you, empathize and share their own moments right back with you? Those are your people.
So, push yourself to air your funny, dirty laundry. Try it with some close friends and push yourself to poke fun at your missteps, awkward moments and outright failures.
Trust me⊠it feels good.
It feels good to no longer hide those things, thinking you should be ashamed of them.
Openly sharing your lifeâs âI peed my pants in publicâ moments will open you up in BIG ways AND will show you who are your people at the same time.
Life is too short to think you need to be ashamed of things youâve done, havenât done or did poorly.
Life is too short to think you are alone in living a wonderfully awkward, crazy life.
Life is too short to think you need people in your life who donât support you through any and all moments.
Life is too short to think that you have anything to hide.
Letâs go.

2. This 8-year-old boy paid off the lunch debt for his entire school by selling key chains. We can learn a lot from kids⊠kindness and an entrepreneurial spirit? Thatâs a life of purpose. (via CNN)
3. The Justin Bieber Youtube Documentary is actually good. Yes! I said it! Iâm a Belieber but I really liked this behind the scenes documentary about him, his music and his relationship with Haley. It really humanizes him. (via Youtube)
